Graveside services for Pearl Harris Hunter will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Willow Grove AME Church Cemetery, 8105 Sumter Landing Road, Horatio, with the Rev. Wallace C. Preston officiating.

The public may view from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, Sumter.

Pearl Harris Hunter, 76, transitioned on Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, in Orangeburg.

Born in Horatio, she was a daughter of the late Ed Harris Jr. and Pearl Seawright Harris. Pearl was a graduate of Ebenezer High School Class of 1963 and continued her education at South Carolina State University. She was employed in the telecommunications industry, retiring from both General Telephone and Farmers Telephone Cooperative. Pearl was raised in Willow Grove AME Church and faithfully served in many capacities: the Willow Grove Missionary Society, class leader and steward, YPD director and Debs and Master Commissioner. Pearl was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Catchall Chapter 315.

Pearl was preceded in eternal life by her parents and siblings, Mary Harris Ellison, Frank Harris Sr., George Harris, Sam Harris, Ed Harris III and Azeez Mustafa.

Survivors are her husband, Henry Hunter Jr.; two daughters, Candace (Leslie Scott) Owens and Kimberly Hunter Crawford (Adarryll), both of Sumter; six grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Louis Harris and Roosevelt (Delores) Harris Sr., both of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
