Pamela Jean Strickland, 53, a resident at the Independence Place facility of the Clarendon County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the home of her parents in Manning.

Born July 19, 1957, in Salisbury, N.C., she was a daughter of George and Jean Strickland. She attended special education classes at the Wylie School in Salisbury until moving to Charlotte, where she completed her education and received her diploma from Myers Street School. She had many interests in her life. She was an avid sports fan and could recite the name and number of most famous athletes, past and present. While in school, she competed in the field events at Special Olympics, as well as competitive bowling at her school, and won many ribbons and trophies. Her main passion was fishing, where she spent many hours each weekend on the family's Lake Marion fishing pier, along with yearly trips out on the lake with her favorite professional fishing guide, Don Drose. They were always successful. She will always be remembered for her love and the care of her special friend and caregiver, Mrs. Sarah Smith.

Surviving are her parents of Manning; a beloved sister, Susan Ann Haas, of East Hartford, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Debra Lynn Strickland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home in Manning with the the Revs. Charles Tyler and Eugene Mosier officiating. Burial followed in Manning Cemetery.
