Othell "JJ" McFadden Sr., 75, was born on April 28, 1945, in Mayesville, to the late Maclone and Lula Anthony McFadden. He departed his life on Monday, Nov. 9, 2020, at his home.

He's succeeded by his four children, Yvette Rhome of Hightstown, New Jersey, Othell McFadden Jr. (Stephanie) of Williamstown, New Jersey, Annette McFadden (Angie) of Sumter and Jacobye McFadden (Donya) of Trenton, New Jersey. In addition, he leaves behind three siblings, Raymond McFadden of Jackson, New Jersey, Elhue McFadden (Carrie Lou) of Trenton and Dorothy Mae Barfield (Arthur) of Trenton; four grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Othell, also known by his siblings as "Ding's baby," attended Goodwill Elementary and Eastern High School in Sumter County. After graduating in 1963, he relocated to Hightstown, where he pursued his dreams, hopes and aspirations of becoming a chef, entrepreneur and family man. In addition, he met a beautiful young lady, Betty Jo Preston from Jacksonville, Florida. The two got married and started a family.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 3745 Myrtle Beach Highway, Sumter.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Wednesday at Goodwill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 295 Brick Church Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Richard Dozier, pastor.

The procession will leave the home at 11:30 a.m.
