A 19-year-old Orangeburg man died after a head-on two-vehicle wreck on U.S. 521 early Saturday.
The accident occurred at about 2:05 a.m. in the southbound lane of U.S. 521.
Jeremiah Grenier II was pronounced dead on scene, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker. He was ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt.
According to South Carolina Master Trooper Brian Lee, Grenier was driving a 2008 Mazda when he was struck head-on in the southbound lane by a 2003 Chevy Silverado traveling north. The truck then went off the roadway and overturned.
A passenger in the vehicle with Grenier was transported to a local hospital along with the driver of the Silverado, Lee said.
Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy will be performed Tuesday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol, the Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
