ALCOLU - Norman Peterson, 61, husband of Verlinda Perkins Peterson, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at McCoy Memorial Nursing Center, Bishopville.

He was born May 4, 1949, in Alcolu, a son of the late Hughie Sr. and Carrie Leverta Evans Peterson. He attended Clarendon County public schools and graduated from Manning Training High School in 1968. He also attended Sumter Area Technical College for two years with a concentration in the field of wielding. In his youth, he accepted Christ as his Savior and joined Harmony Presbyterian Church, Alcolu.

Survivors are his wife, Verlinda Perkins Peterson; a daughter, Twarnisha (Dennis) Stokes; three grandsons, Khamal, Dennis Jr. and Demari, all of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Odell Peterson Hammett of Alcolu and Verta (Luther) Peterson McCree of Rock Hill; a brother, Hughie (Brenda) Peterson of Orangeburg; three aunts, Mary Lou Hickman of Alcolu, Katie L. English of New York and Daisy Arnold of Myrtle Beach; two uncles, Roosevelt Peterson of Norwalk, Conn., and Hiawatha Peterson of New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, at Harmony Presbyterian Church, Alcolu, with the Rev. Carnell Hampton, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Westminster Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Alcolu.

The family received friends at the home of his sister, Odell P. Hammett, 1180 Ridge Drive, Alcolu.
