Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker released the name of the pedestrian who died from injuries sustained in a fatal wreck along Black River Road.
At about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, the driver of a 2012 Suzuki pickup was traveling south on Black River Road near Rice Drive when it struck a pedestrian walking south on Black River Road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Gary Miller. The pedestrian was wearing dark clothing while walking in a dark area, Miller said.
James Rayan Weikel, 42, of Kershaw County, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Baker. Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled for later at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
Miller said there are no charges in this case.
