Mozell Gipson Lowery, 75, wife of Herman Lowery, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

She was born April 13, 1935, in Summerton, a daughter of the late Joe and Rosa Johnson Gipson. She attended Lincoln High School in Sumter. She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as past president of the deaconess board and a member of the senior choir. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and taking care of her family.

Surviving are her husband, Herman Lowery of the home; three children, Johnny Ray Lowery of Savannah, Ga., Connie Vernessa Lowery of Augusta, Ga., and Terrence Darnell Lowery of Summerton; two sisters, Mamie Rodwell of Sumter and Catherine Gipson of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at Salem Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Lei F. Washington, officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family received friends at the home, 739 Warley Ave, Sumter.
