Morris College is bringing back its initiative to celebrate local educators and school professionals but in a new way.

The Sumter Item is premiering High School Teacher of the Month, presented by Morris College, a monthly contest that will acknowledge high school teachers in Sumter, Clarendon and Lee counties. Similar to The Item's previous Teacher of the Month and Counselor of the Month contests, the public will nominate their favorite teachers, and the finalists will be voted on by the public after The Item chooses three finalists.

The winner will be revealed the fourth Wednesday of each month, though this inaugural month in the series will be revealed on March 30.

Nominate now though March 20 at www.theitem.com/highschoolteacher, then voting will be open March 21-27.

Any public or private school teacher who works in the tri-county can be nominated.

In addition to the recognition, the winner will receive a certificate, swag and $50 to a local business, all courtesy of Morris College.
