UPDATE: Runaway Sumter teen thought to be involved in non-fatal shooting

UPDATE: As of 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, Jamari Wells is now considered a runaway . 

A teen who is also sought for his alleged involvement in a non-fatal shooting on New Year’s Day is missing.

Jamari Akeem Wells, 16, was last seen by family on Wednesday, Jan. 1, and was reported missing on Tuesday, Jan. 7, according to Mark Bordeaux, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Wells’ last contact with his family was through text messages, and he was last seen by law enforcement after fleeing a traffic stop at the intersection of Pinewood and McCrays Mill Road on Jan. 1, wearing all black clothing, Bordeaux said. Wells is also being sought by investigators for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred earlier that Wednesday during which a minor was injured.

Wells is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 165 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
