BISHOPVILLE - Mrs. Mildred Eletha Truesdale Elmore, 94, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Heritage Home of Florence. Born on Aug. 14, 1924 in Bishopville, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Eletha Brown Truesdale.

For many years, "Granny", as she was widely known, and her husband operated a grocery store in Bishopville that served as a gathering place for many in the community. She also worked for and retired from Farmers Telephone Cooperative.

At the time of her death, she was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church of Bishopville. Mildred taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and following the death of her husband, founded the Widows of Worship service and support group for men and women. As a memorial to her daughter, Millie, she donated a wooden cross that is prominently displayed in the front of the sanctuary. During her life she was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Bishopville Pilot Club. When her daughters were young she was their Brownie and Girl Scout leader.

Mildred liked to cook and sew, especially for her grandchildren. They really loved her baked macaroni and cheese. She developed a fondness for lighthouses, collecting them and then visiting the ones on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Mildred is survived by daughters, Cora (David) Loftin of Nashville, Tennessee and Abbie (Lyn) Denny of Lake City; grandchildren, Davis (Jana) Loftin, Nancy (Carl) Driver, Ivey (Jay) Donovan, Charlton (Sharyl) Denny, Brian (Catherine) Denny; thirteen great-grandchildren; special friends, Charlie Goodson, Sandra McCutchen, Betty Lou Watson, Annette Hopkins, Willene Smith, Laurie Watkins, and Joanne Brown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin K. Elmore; her daughter, Millie Mozingo; sister, Ruby Parnell; and brother, Liston Truesdale.

The family would like to express gratitude to Charlie, the staff of Heritage Home of Florence, and the staff of Agape Hospice of Florence.
