Melvin Shavio Cain was born on May 8, 1946, the third child born to the late Thomas and Mattie Cain. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

He was educated in the public schools of Lee County. After graduating from Mount Pleasant High School, he attended Vorhees College and later enlisted in the United States Army, where he served faithfully for three years. Melvin was employed by Santee Print for more than 30 years, until his health began to fail.

At an early age, Melvin joined Unionville AME Church in Mayesville. He was affectionately called "Bobby" by those who knew and loved him dearly. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, granddaddy and faithful friend.

Melvin Shavio Cain leaves to cherish his fond and precious memory: his wife of 48 years, Mary M. Cain of the home; one son, Kendall Lexter Moses of Florence; a loving and devoted goddaughter whom they raised as their granddaughter, Iyanna K. Nero of Mayesville; two loyal and devoted friends, Josephine Wells and Isaac Green; two sisters, Janie Mae (William) Wells of Lanham, Maryland, and Dorothy Wright of Mayesville; three brothers, Charlie (Mary) Cain of Lanham, John (Viola) Cain of Sumter and Henry Cain of Columbia; two brothers-in-law, Otis Moses and O'Dell Moses of Capital Heights, Maryland; one sister-in-law, Juanita M. Austin of Washington, D.C.; a devoted cousin, Victoria Carter of Bishopville; three nieces, the Rev. Gloria A. Thompson, Wargaret Cain and Chantell Cain; five nephews, Vincent D. Wells, Gustavious Cain, Ryan Cain, Sheldon Cain and Willym Cain; and a host of great- and great-great-grandnieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, all who will miss him dearly.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by two nephews, Tommy Cain and Anthony Wells; and one great-grandson, Malachi Malek Nero.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Cain will be placed in the church at noon on Wednesday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, SC 29104 with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, pastor, eulogist, and the Rev. Harry L. Wilson presiding. Interment will follow at Unionville Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 102 Mikado Road, Mayesville, SC 29104.
