MARY R. DAVIS

ORANGEBURG - Mary Alma Richburg Davis, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Morningside Assisted Living Facility in Orangeburg.

Born in Clarendon County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Richard and Martha Blanding Richburg. Mary left Sumter at an early age to work in Glen Falls, N.Y., to provide for her parents. She also provided help and support to her family. After returning to Sumter in the mid-1980s, she built a home and enjoyed her retirement by gardening and raising chickens, geese, turkeys and ducks.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Singleton; two brothers, Julius and Blanding Richburg; and a niece, Jeanette Daniels.

Surviving are devoted nephews, Richard (Jerri) Singleton, Morris Singleton Jr. and Gammon (Beverly) Stewart; nieces, Lila Bailey, Romona ( David) Baseo, Nancy (Nathaniel) Thornton and Barbara Jean Miller; and her sister-in-law, Jesse Mae Richburg.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St. Interment followed at the Reeseville AME Church cemetery, U.S. 521, Sumter. The family received friends at Palmer Memorial Chapel.
