MARVIN EUGENE ATKINSON SR.

Marvin Eugene Atkinson Sr., husband of LaNelle Mixon Atkinson, died Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey.

Born Dec. 27, 1943, in Sumter, he was the son of the late Clarence Eugene Atkinson and Ethel J. Atkinson. He attended Sumter First Church of the Nazarene and was a member of Kiwanis Club of Sumter. He retired from Sherwin-Williams and later from Lowe's.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years; a son, Marvin Eugene “Marty” Atkinson Jr. (Jamie); and three grandchildren, Reese Michelle Atkinson, Connor Sloan Atkinson and Naomi Claire Atkinson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty R. Bell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel officiated by the Rev. Greg Pressley and the Rev. Pete Mixon. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dale Atkinson, Gary Atkinson, Jody Atkinson, Kevin Mixon, Joshua Mixon and Rusty Atkinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Knight, Gerald and Carol Turner, and the Otis Hankins family.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
