Marjorie Jean Garaux passed away in Sumter on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022.

Born on Sept. 10, 1920, in Uhrichsville, Ohio, to Ruth and Raymond A. Brown, she moved with her parents and brother, William, to Canton, Ohio, where she graduated from McKinley High School in 1938 and the Aultman School of Nursing in 1941. While working as a nurse, she met and married Dale O. Garaux, her husband for over 50 years until his death in 1999.

During her life, she worked as mother, homemaker, private nurse and as an office assistant in her husband's businesses. She went back to full-time nursing after their move to Florida, and her nursing career culminated when she was chosen for the chief of nursing position at the Elks Children's Hospital in Umatilla, Florida.

Marjorie is survived by her two sons, Dale Lee Garaux of Sumter and Todd C. Garaux of Huffman, Texas; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was a founding member of the Perry Christian Church in Canton, Ohio.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Perry Christian Church, 139 Perry Drive, Canton, Ohio 44708, with Pastor Rod Geiger presiding.

In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation of your choice in memory of Marjorie Jean Garaux is preferred.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
