Maple appointed to S.C. Commission for Minority Affairs

Kaala Maple was recently appointed to the board of South Carolina's Commission for Minority Affairs. Maple will serve as a commissioner at-large. Maple was officially elected by the South Carolina Senate on May 11, and her term will start in June.

The South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs ensures that all ethnic minority residents of South Carolina will be treated equitably and achieve economic prosperity through socio-cultural awareness, collaboration, policy change and research.

Maple is a Sumter native and graduated from Troy University in 2019 with a Master's Degree in Public Administration and Winthrop University in 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. While attending Winthrop, Maple was involved in the Council of Student Leaders, her sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and several other organizations.

She has always had a passion for serving her community and looks forward to serving the state in this position. Maple looks forward to working with her fellow commissioners to achieve the goals of the S.C. Commission for Minority Affairs.

Maple is also a 2023 Port Ambassador for the South Carolina Ports working to increase public awareness and support for their strategic plan and initiatives. Maple currently works as a federal contractor and was formerly on the staff of United States Congressman James E. Clyburn.
