Manning woman killed in 2-vehicle wreck on Old Georgetown Road

MANNING - An 89-year-old Manning woman died four days after sustaining injuries in a two-vehicle collision on Sept. 22 on Old Georgetown Road.

Joan T. Harrington was airlifted from the scene of the wreck to McLeod Health in Florence, where she succumbed to her injuries on Sept. 26.

Lance Cpl. Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of the Old Georgetown and Home Branch roads.

Tidwell said a 2000 Chevrolet pickup was traveling north on Old Georgetown Road when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Home Branch Road. A 2014 Ford Escape was traveling south on Old Georgetown Road when the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Ford was transported to McLeod Health Clarendon. The passenger in the Ford vehicle, Harrington, was airlifted to McLeod Health in Florence. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the truck, was not injured in the collision.

Tidwell said the wreck is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
