Manning High's Catherine Wilson wins Morris College November Counselor of the Month

This is the second in the 2021-22 Counselor of the Month contest series, now in its second year. Presented by Morris College, the public is asked to nominate their favorite high school guidance counselor in public and private schools throughout Sumter, Clarendon and Lee counties. After the nomination period, the public votes between finalists determined by The Sumter Item staff. The Counselor of the Month is announced in The Sumter Item's newspaper and online at www.theitem.com/counselor on the fourth Tuesday of the month. The winner receives a $50 gift card, a plaque and Morris College swag.

"Catherine Wilson has been helping students meet and exceed their expectations in high school and beyond to become productive citizens for over 30 years in Clarendon School District Two. She has a sincere interest and passion for helping young people achieve their goals.

"She is an alumni from Manning High School and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Master of Education degree in Counselor Education from South Carolina State University. Mrs. Wilson is a member of Palmetto State School Counselor Association, American School Counselor Association and South Carolina Counseling Association.

"Among many other Manning community groups, she is a member of Bethel AME Church's Women's Missionary Society, Lay Organization and Financial Secretary, New Light Chapter #254 Order of the Eastern Star, Mary B. Thomas Girls Youth Circle, Heroines of Jericho and more.

"She is the mother of one son, Jamal Robinson, and daughter of Beatrice Walker and the late Jessie and Ella Janes Hicks."
