The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged Cory Lydell Dingle, 44, of Fourth Street in Mayesville, with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in conection to a Thursday evening shooting in Mayesville.

According to Maj. Randall Stewart, deputies and Sumter County EMS responded to a shooting on Fourth Street in Mayesville  at about 10:30 p.m.  where they located two victims,  Sam Lesane and Charlie Harrell.

Harrell suffered gunshot injuries to his arm and abdomen. The sheriff's office said he is in stable condition at a local medical facility.

Lesane, who suffered several gunshot injuries to his upper and lower body, succumbed to his wounds at an area hospital.

The SCSO and the Sumter County Coroner's Office will continue to investigate while awaiting autopsy results and a medical update of the second victim.

“This incident is a sad situation. It appears to be an alcohol-fueled argument that led to unnecessary violence that resulted in the needless death of a local citizen and severe injuries to another. Our hearts and prayers are with both families, and we are hopeful that Harrell’s condition will continue to improve,” Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis said.

Dingle was transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where he remains, awaiting his initial bond hearing scheduled for Saturday morning.
