Man, 34, dies in single-vehicle wreck in Sumter County


A 34-year-old Sumter man died in a single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 378 near the Wateree Swamp area on May 15.
Brian Hough II was pronounced dead on scene, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Sonny Collins, the incident occurred at about 5 a.m., when Hough was the driver of a 2019 Dodge Challenger traveling east and ran off the road and struck a tree. He was wearing a seatbelt.
A passenger was transported to an area hospital, Collins said.
Next of kin has been notified, and an autopsy will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Sumter County Coroner’s Office is investigating.
