Man, 24, fatally shot in Sumter's 1st homicide since May

Sumter County investigators are seeking information on the shooting death of a 24-year-old man after an incident at a Nicole Lane residence around 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Devin T. Davis, of Nicole Lane, was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital prior to the arrival of law enforcement, said Deputy Adrienne Sarvis, public information officer for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker said an autopsy performed Friday morning at MUSC in Charleston showed Davis died of an apparent gunshot. Davis’ next of kin was notified before his death was released to the media.

This is being investigated as the first homicide to occur in Sumter County since May 8. There have been 13 since the beginning of 2020, including nine in the county and five in the city.

Sarvis said investigators are seeking information about the incident, subjects involved and the suspect vehicle — possibly a dark-colored four-door hatchback sedan.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 436-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC. Callers can remain anonymous.
