Lucile White Johnson, 88, widow of James Johnson, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at her home, 2003 Hotel St., Alcolu.

She was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Mayesville, a daughter of the late Marion and Epsie Williams White Sr. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. Being reared in a Christian home, she sought the need for a personal Savior and, in 1949, she joined Green Hill Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in any capacity.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers and one grandson.

Survivors are one daughter, Annie Felder Simmons of the home; one brother, Alexander White Sr. of Mayesville; four sisters-in-law, Thomasina White, Martha White, Dora Moses and Isadora Abraham; three granddaughters, Shaneta (Antonio) Avinger and Clarissia Simmons, both of Atlanta, and Lateeka Felder of Alcolu; four great-grandchildren; one godson, Lewis (Lillie) Ramsey; and one goddaughter, Shirley Lewis.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011,. at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1260 Green Hill Church Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. James S. Hudley, pastor, officiating, the Rev. William T. Frierson Sr., presiding, assisting the Rev. Frankie Roberts, Minister Sylvia Whitaker and the Rev. David Luckey. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home.

CHRISTENE E. McCRAY

SUMMERTON - Christene Ellen McCray, 63, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.

She was born Aug. 16, 1947, in Summerton, a daughter of the late Mingo Sr. and Judy Lemon McCray. She was a 1965 graduate of Scott's Branch High School. In her youth, she accepted Christ as her Savior and joined Mount Zion AME Church and re-established her membership after moving back home and served faithfully as a stewardess.

She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Survivors are one son, Stanley B. McCray Sr. of the home; two brothers, Joe Louis (Eliza) Nelson and Bertie Brown (Ida Ruth) McCray, both of Summerton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Services were held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Mount Zion AME Church, 6547 MW Rickenbaker Road, Summerton, with the Rev. Albert Thompson, pastor, presiding, the Rev. Dr. Lynburg Nelson, eulogist, assisting the Rev. Carlson Thompson and the Rev. Dr. Willie J. Heggins II. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 4199 Moses Dingle Road, Summerton.
