LEWIS J. WITHERSPOON

Funeral service for Lewis J. Witherspoon will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Church of Christ, 215 Kingsbury Drive, Sumter, with Elder Melvin Sapp, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park.

A public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Lewis, also known as "Slick," was born on Aug. 5, 1952, in Sumter, to the late Ronnie Sr. and Susie Mae Watson Witherspoon.

In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Leola Hickman; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and a nephew.

Lewis passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia.

Lewis leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Latoya Rashael (Joseph) Bowman; four grandchildren, Devon Mitchell, Larry King III, Alexis Bowman and Marlah Bowman; five brothers, Tracy Oliver, Ronnie (Deborah Ann) Witherspoon, Gerome Witherspoon, Johnny (Nicholette) Witherspoon and Kenneth (Betty) Witherspoon; three sisters, Deborah Jean Hardy, Dianne (Elijah) Burgess and Veronica (Kevin) Mack; four aunts, Martha Nails, Emma Witherspoon, Gladys Witherspoon and Bernice Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Elijah Burgess, 995 Manchester Circle, Sumter.
