Levie Carter, husband of Marjorie Lawson Carter, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Eleazer Carter and Sarah Richardson Carter. He was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church and the VFW.

After graduating from Scott's Branch High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966. While in the Army, he was stationed in Hamburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1968. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserve for two years. He lived and worked in New Jersey for many years and returned to South Carolina in 1977. He was employed with Crescent-Cooper Tools for 33 years until his recent retirement in April.

Survivors include five children, Levie Jr., of Euless, Tex., Mar-Lisa (Philip) Nesmith, Lenonard Carter, Terrance (Kim) Lawson, and Lionel Carter, of Manning; one sister, Willine C. Kinlaw; one brother, Lee Lewis Carter of Manning; adopted brother, Lee Ernest (Bubba) Green of New York, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Rajhuan, Myesha, Brianna, Shania, Jade, Sadaya, MyLaka, and Savion; Godchildren, Terrasel Jones, Martina Pearson, and Cynthia Henry; aunts, Ruth Saunders and Carrie Richardson; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez (Esau) Bennett, Carrie (Roosevelt) Watson, Mozell Ragin, William K. Lawson, Joenathan (Martha) Lawson, Pastor Elliott (Bessie) Lawson and Johnny Wells.

Funeral services were held Aug. 9 at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 1161 Hamilton Drive, Manning.
