Letter to the editor: The only ones with rights terrorize everyone with noise

Posted

My name is Jeannette Hodge; I live at 5294 Christine Drive, Sumter. I have lived here for nearly 20 years, and in that time, the noise ordinance has changed from a $275 fine no matter what time of day or night to ... "Could you please call back after 9 p.m.?"

So now that most of us are trapped in our homes suffering from COVID, the rest of the people are allowed to torment us while we are at our lowest. This is an outrage that other people's rights no longer matter.

My son and husband are so sick, and our neighbors' rights are more important than ours.

I was taught that when your rights infringe on another person's, you are in the wrong; now, it seems the only ones with rights are those left to terrorize everyone through loud music, revving engines or whatever they want to do.
