Letter: Logan-Owens earned the respect of her colleagues, community at Palmetto Health Tuomey

For a number of years, I have sought to share my thoughts or opinions in writings via The Item, but after careful consideration I withheld. But this is so important and gut wrenching that it will not allow me not to speak from the heart.

First, let me say Sumter is a great community and family oriented. There are things that can and will be changed; just give God time.

Secondly, when I was asked to recommend Dr. Logan-Owens for the position of "the new" hospital administrator, I was elated! Because I knew the hard work she had done. Immediately after completing high school, we met. She expressed her desires to become a nurse. Not just any nurse; she worked for her BSN while working every summer to gain knowledge. She got married, had children, stopped by my office one day and asked the question, "What would I need to become an administrator?" Hence, she accomplished that as well!

Thirdly, Dr. Logan-Owens worked every shift she was assigned without complaining. She was tested, but she worked hard and earned the respect of her subordinates as well as community. That is what I call "a great leader" that she is and will always be. She is leaving the hospital. Dr. Logan-Owens is blessed and highly favored. She has God, family, friends, education, community and, most of all, LOVE and RESPECT.

She will rise! Let's all send her our best.
