ASHWOOD - Leon Arnold, 89, husband of Dorothy "Dot" Bramlett Arnold, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at his home in the Ashwood community of Lee County.

Born on March 31, 1933, in Rocky Face, Georgia, he was a son of the late George and Annie Tate Arnold. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was a member and past district deputy grand master of the Masons, a Shriner, member of the York Rites and Scottish Rites. He also was a member and past president of the Bishopville Lion's Club and Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran. He later retired from DuPont and the City of Bishopville.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years; a son, Martin "Marty" Arnold (Cathy) of Mayesville; two grandchildren, Stacy Arnold of Mayesville and Justin Arnold of Elgin; two sisters, Bernice Holcomb and Eloise Burgess, both of Georgia; a brother-in-law, Bobby Bramlett of Ashwood; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Lebraun Arnold; and sisters, Evelyn Baugh and Lois Lamb.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Bethany Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. James Chandler officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Bethany Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home, 200 W. Church St., Bishopville, and other times at the home.
