Lee County School District names assistant director of instruction

Michelle McDonald has been named assistant director of instruction of Lee County School District. McDonald most recently served as the district's testing coordinator and early childhood coordinator.

McDonald brings 18 years of experience in education. She began her career in Lee County School District at the former Bishopville Primary School as a teacher. During her time with the district, she has served in the following roles: reading interventionist, TAP Master Teacher, Success for All facilitator, reading coach, instructional coach, testing coordinator and early childhood coordinator.

McDonald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from Coker College (cum laude), a Master of Science degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Reading and Literacy from Walden University, a Master of Education in Learning Disabilities from Francis Marion University and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from Walden University. McDonald holds certifications in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Elementary Principal. She is endorsed as a Literacy Teacher and Literacy Coach. McDonald is a certified mentor, ADEPT/SAFE-T evaluator, South Carolina Teaching Standards 4.0 Rubric evaluator and South Carolina Teaching Standards 4.0 Rubric Trainer of Trainers.

McDonald was honored as the Lee County School District Teacher of the Year in 2006.

In her previous roles in the Lee County School District, McDonald implemented several programs for students such as the District Spelling Bee, Author's Tea and the Read to Succeed Summer Reading and Child Early Reading and Development Education Program camps. She also provides professional development and training for teachers.
