Lee County 250 speaker will be state historian for Ancient Order of Hibernians

Lee County 250 will host speaker Tom Elmore for its Tuesday, Feb. 25, meeting at 6 p.m. at the city county complex at 140 N. Main St., Bishopville (near library).

Elmore grew up in Columbia and holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from University of South Carolina. He is the author of five books about South Carolina in the 19th century as well as numerous articles in regional and national publications.

Elmore has lectured across the Mid-Atlantic states and has been a book reviewer for two national magazines. He is the state historian for the Ancient Order of Hibernians. His knowledge of the history of the Irish, Scot-Irish and Scots in the Midlands of South Carolina from the 1730s to today is unsurpassed.

Elmore is on the S.C. Humanities Speaker Bureau and a member of Richland County 250 Committee, Robert Burns Society of the Midlands and Scottish Clan Davidson. His history books will be available at the meeting.

Lee County 250 is celebrating the country's 250th anniversary and its victory during the Revolutionary War.
