JUNIOR DIGGS

Posted

Junior Diggs was born on Nov. 6, 1942, to the late June Hampton Diggs and Mary Ellen Miller-Diggs-Moody. At the time of his transition on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, he was 77 years old. Junior attended the Sumter County public school system, worked at Puck Wood, drove tractor-trailer trucks and operated heavy equipment, which was his favorite. He was baptized at Rafting Creek Baptist Church.

Throughout his years, Junior was a dedicated hard worker. He worked throughout Sumter and Kershaw counties as a lumberman with his own business. After many years of that, he landed a job as a heavy equipment operator for Armstrong Construction Co., responsible for building many of our highways of today. He eventually was medically retired around 2005.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife for more than 57 years, Annie Mae Workman Diggs; children, Annie Deloris Workman-Adams (Albertis) of Pinewood, Robert Junior Diggs (Jessie Mae) of Pooler, Georgia, Mamie Ellen Diggs-Bennett (Melvin James) of Sumter, Martha Marie Diggs-Davis (Eric T.) of Sumter and Constance Nicole-Diggs-Gilmore (Irvin A.) of Dalzell; four sisters, Bellma Diggs-Davis of Patterson, New Jersey, and Carolyn Diggs, Marion Diggs and Beulah Diggs-Dennis (Leroy), all of Rembert; one stepbrother, Jeremiah Moody of Sumter; two stepsisters, Mary Moody of Sumter and Juanita Dinkins of New Haven, Connecticut; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives, loved ones and friends.
