John Wilbur Stoudenmire Sr., 97, of Sumter, beloved husband of 65 years to the late Minnie Cornelia Weaver Stoudenmire, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 25, 1913, in Lone Star, he was the son of the late John David Stoudenmire and Sadie Parler Stoudenmire. He was formerly employed by O.J. Hallman Inc. and Newman Construction Company. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.

He is survived by three sons, John Stoudenmire Jr. (Connie) of Port Tobacco, Md., Charles Stoudenmire (Shirley) of Summerville and Ken Stoudenmire (Nancy) of Columbia; a sister, Alberta Scott of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Kris Osborn of Sequim, Wash., Shelly (Mark) King of Cary, N.C., Britt (Leigh) Stoudenmire of Pearisburg, Va., Leah Stoudenmire of Greenville, Todd Stoudenmire of Trenton, N.J., Kurt Stoudenmire of Columbia; and a great-grandchild, Oliver King.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Johnny Stoudenmire of Lone Star, Dr. Dennis C. Stoudenmire of Honea Path, David Edward Stoudenmire of Loris, Harry Calhoun Stoudenmire of North Charleston, David Parler Stoudenmire of Lone Star; and sisters, Lurline Jordan of Charlotte, Kathleen Heape of Manning, Dorothy Wadford of West Columbia, Doris Hinton of North Charleston and Juanita Stoudenmire of Lone Star.

The family would like to thank Juanita Weston and all of the staff of Morningside of Sumter for their loving care of John.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at St. James Lutheran Church. Burial followed at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Sumter.

John David Stoudenmire, Dennis Stoudenmire, Wayne Wadford, Johnny Wadford, Don Anderson, David Stoudenmire and Ernest "Buddy" Wilkes served as pallbearers.

David Booth, Clayton Lowder Jr., Don Green and Jimmy Newman served as honorary pallbearers.
