JOHN HENRY HASTIE

John Henry Hastie was born on July 8, 1939, in Sumter, to Frank Sr. and Emma Hastie. He departed this life on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021.

He received his early education in the public schools of Sumter County, graduating from Manchester High School. He was a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church, Sumter, where he served faithfully on the following ministries: Harvest Hope, brotherhood, garden and Men's Monday Night Bible Study.

Precious memories will be cherished by his son, Frederick Hastie (Geraldine) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; three daughters, Joyce Craig (Brian) and Liza Lindsey of Fayetteville and Denice Washington (Bruce) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; a brother, Calvin Hastie of Sumter; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Eveline Harvin and Clarisy Archer; and brothers, Woodrow, Alexander, Frank, Wilson and Murray Hastie.

Public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday at Sumter Funeral Service.

The body will be placed in New Bethel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Homegoing services will be begin at noon with Pastor Willie A. Wright Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Beulah-Hayneworth Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 910 Bethel Church Road. Facial masks are required during all visitations.
