SUMMERTON - Janie Robinson Carter died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center in Sumter.

Born Aug. 2, 1921, in Clarendon County, she was a daughter of the late Cumpsey Sr. and Janie Fordham Robinson. She was the widow of Joe Carter Jr. Janie attended Clarendon County public schools. She was a member of Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church, Summerton.

Survivors include four sons, Ready M. Carter and Joe Carter III, both of Bronx, N.Y., Roosevelt (Diane) Carter and Anthony (Lisa) Carter, both of Summerton; Joseph Hawkins and Laquarance Green, who were reared as her sons, both of Manning; eight daughters, Hattie Robinson, Dana (Jesse) Hawkins and Carol (Marvin) Smiling, all of Manning, Gertrude (Robert) Watson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Bessie (Moses) Jackson and Bobbie J. Carter, both of Bronx, Shirley A. Carter and Esther (James) Green, both of Summerton; Elease Solomon, whom she reared as her daugther, of Summerton; one sister, Annie Ruth Robinson of Summerton; three brothers, Cumpsey (Lucille) Robinson Jr., Moses Robinson and Bennie "C P" Robinson, all of Detroit, Mich.; one brother-in-law, John Edward (Esther) Carter of Summerton; one sister-in-law, Mamie Carter of Baltimore, Md.; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursdsay, Dec. 16, 2010, at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at the home, 1429 Brailsford Lane, Summerton.
