James Edward Brunson, 71, died on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Born on Feb. 24, 1950, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Edward McCoy Brunson and Louise Scurry Brunson. He was a member of Graham Baptist Church. He was employed for more than 30 years as a farmer by one of his closest friends, C.W. Brunson.

Survivors include a brother, Wymon Brunson; a sister, Susie Driggers; six nieces; a nephew; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Rutman.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Victor VanRas officiating. Burial will be at Brunson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brantley Wilson, Matthew McCoy, Dakota Brunson, Jake Mims, Brandon Mims and Matthew Morris.

Honorary pallbearers will be C.W. Brunson, Terry Squires, Jimmy Davis and Jeff Davis.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2505 Jake Road.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
