LYNCHBURG - Jack L. McElveen, age 82, died on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020, at his home, after an illness.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Tabernacle Cemetery near Lynchburg. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Mr. McElveen was born in Sumter County, a son of the late James Woodrow McElveen and Kathleen Lee McElveen. He was a retired law enforcement officer, a retired farmer and formerly owned several washeretts and car washes in the area. He was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran. He was a member of Lynchburg American Legion Post 140 and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom McElveen and Jim McElveen; son-in-law, Guy B. Crenshaw; sister-in law, Miriam McElveen; and brother-in-law, Paul Campbell.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Stewart McElveen of Lynchburg; a daughter, Renee Crenshaw of Little River; sisters, Patsy Campbell of Surfside Beach and Mary (Charles) Hinds of Florence; a brother, Mike McElveen of Florence; one grandson, Jason (Leslie) Crenshaw of Little River; and two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Crenshaw and Jay S. Crenshaw.

The family would like to thank Dr. Priscilla Welch and staff, Dan Garison, Christina Toney with Amedisys Hospice and caregiver, Judy Davis.
