ISAAC D. JOHNSON

Isaac D. Johnson died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1921, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Hammie and Inez Cousar Johnson. He attended Sumter County public schools. After graduating from high school, he was employed in Newport News, Va., and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He received two bronze service stars, a Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory medal. He was honorably discharged while in Northern France. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church (USA).

Survivors include two sisters, Hattie Bell Smith of Sumter and the Rev. Lula Johnson of New York; a brother, Robert M. Johnson of Sumter; a niece, Shirley Johnson of North Carolina; three nephews, Hammie and Joseph Johnson of New York and Robert (Lavonda) Johnson of Columbia; great-nieces and nephews, Lakeisha, Lil Thelma, Crystal, S. Deanna, Shanaria, Sherronicia, Terrence, Bakari, John, Jerell, J. Micah and Jalil; a close friend, Paul Burris; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Johnson; a brother, John K. Johnson; and a nephew, Elwood "Hollywood" Johnson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29 at Second Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in Florence National Cemetery in Florence.
