Letter to the editor: Hat's off to professional, apologetic Sumter sanitation department

I wanted to pass on kudos to the Sumter sanitation department. This past Friday, while picking up my trash container, the truck (one of the new ones with the arm that squeezes the container) accidentally hit my mailbox and broke the pole. They verified that they indeed had broken the pole (the new trucks actually have cameras on them). When my wife and I came home, the garbage truck and a supervisor were there and they had already started digging a hole to replace the pole. I figured that I was going to have to go to the hardware store and buy a new one and file a claim, but they said that they were going to replace the pole and mailbox that day - which they did within the hour. They were extremely courteous, professional, friendly and apologetic. I can't say how much my wife and I were impressed with all three of them, and my hat's off to them.
