COLUMBIA - Harry Vincent Connolly, widower of Margie B. Connolly, died June 3 after a long illness.

Born Nov. 12, 1929, in York, he was a son of the late John Marvin and Edith Callahan Connolly. He was owner and operator of Bruns Monumental Company Inc. as well as president of Evergreen Memorial Park and Hillside Memorial Park in Sumter and Devotion Gardens in Mullens. He and his brother operated cemeteries in South and North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. He lived at the lake in Manning for his final years.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayle Suggs and her husband, Richard, and Nancy White and her husband, Britt; three grandchildren, Maggie Santino (Chris), Vincent Suggs (Kelly) and Brie White; three great grandchildren; a sister-in-law; a foster brother, Jim Orange; and the loving family of Judy "D.J." McElveen.

Nesides his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Harry V. "Bucky" Connolly Jr.; a brother, John M. Connolly Sr.; a sister, Peggy C. Taylor; a brother-in-law, Minor Taylor; two nephews; a great-nephew; and his loving companion, Judy McElveen..

Funeral services were held June 7 at the funeral home with burial at Evergreen Memorial Park's Mausoleum.

BOOKER T. FLEMING Jr.

MANNING - Booker T. Fleming Jr., 63, widower of Geneva Davis Fleming, died June 1 at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born June 6, 1946, in Manning, he was a son of Everlena Bennett Fleming and the late Booker T. Fleming Sr. He graduated from Manning Training School. He was a member of Biggers AME Church and founder of Fleming Fencing Co.

Survivors besides his mother include two sons, Alexander (Carolyn) Thompson of Manning and Johnnie Lee Fleming Brogdon of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Ayanna Fleming of Manning and Angie (Mike) Milnes of Tallahssee, Fla.; two brothers, Henry (Carolyn) Fleming and Dave (Lottie) Fleming, both of Manning; three sisters, Shirley Canty of Manning, Lydia (Earl) Wilson of Miami and Bobbie Wilson of Claremont, N.C.; six grandchildren; four aunts; and one uncle.

Services were held June 6 at Biggers AME Church, 6208 Kingstree Highway, Manning, with burial in Muldrow Cemetery.

MATTHEW HODGE Sr.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Retired U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Matthew Hodge Sr., 75, formerly of Sumter, died May 26..

Born Dec. 6, 1934, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Hampton and Annie Dell Bryant Hodge. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 33 years. He was of the Church of Christ faith.

Surviving are a son, Matthew Hodge Jr. of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Laquitta Smith and her husband, Tim, of Mississippi; a brother, Raymond Hodge of Sumter; a sister, Rosa Miles and her husband, D.D., of Manning; sister-in-law, Bobbie Hodge of Sumter; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Hodge, Hampton Hodge and Edmund Hodge; and a sister, Viola Brewer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Home Branch Baptist Church.

Arrangements will be announced by Stephens Funeral Home of Manning.

ROBERT C. JOHNSON Jr.

MANNING - Robert Clarkson Johnson Jr., 48, husband of Valarie Brown Johnson, died June 4 at Bon Secours-St. Francis Hospital in Charleston.

Born Dec. 9, 1961, in Bitburg, Germany, he was a son of Robert Sr. and Barbara Wade Johnson. He was the founder of Living Faith Outreach Ministries in Orangeburg.

Survivors besides his mother of St. Stephen and wife of the home include six daughters, Shawna Johnson of St. Stephen, Kristen Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Danielle Johnson of Summerville, Keya Woods of South Hill, N.C., Constance McCutchen of Charleston and Shiquetta McCutchen of Summerville; a son, Aaron Holmes of St. Stephen; three brothers, Ronald (Dianna) Burke, Rodney (Stephanie) Burke and Reginald (Brenda) Burke, all of New York; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held June 11 at the funeral home. Burial was held at Zion Cemetery in St. Stephen.
