Harry Lee Smoot Sr., 82, was born on Feb. 24, 1937, to the late Alexander and Leila McBryde Smoot. He departed his earthly life on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at his home in Sumter.

He was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County and attended the University of South Carolina. In his earlier years, he attended Enon Missionary Baptist Church. He was employed by Campbell's Soup and later retired from Prescott Metals after more than 30 years of truck driving.

He leaves in his honor, his wife, Cathlene Shaw Smoot. To this union, two children were born.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Eunice Dow. From that union, five children were born.

He was also preceded in death by his common law wife, Rosa Mae Woods. From this union, one son was born.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Cathlene Shaw Smoot; four sons, Leon (Alexcia) Smoot of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Lorenzo (Chanel) Woods of Northwest Annex, Virginia, Larry (Carla) Smoot of High Point, North Carolina, and Charles Smoot of Texas; three daughters, Dianne Smoot of Sumter, Carrie Smoot of High Point and Rosa Lee (Dwight) Rumph of Texas; several stepchildren; two sisters, Flossie Mae Vereen of New York and Jeanette Smoot Robinson of Sumter; a companion of many years, Elouise Deleon; a special cousin, Francina Dix; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends from the neighborhood and many other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of Johnny and JoAnn Gore, 101 Vining St., Sumter, and 137 High Ave., Apartment A, Sumter.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Pastor Gwendolyn Credle, eulogist.

The procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. from 137 High Ave., Apartment A, Sumter.
