Happy 100th birthday, Christine!

A century ago, in August 1924, the world was abuzz with change. U.S. Army planes performed the first round-the-world flight, Macy's staged its first Thanksgiving Day parade, and the Roaring '20s were in full swing, bringing jazz and flapper fashion to the forefront. And nestled in that historic year, a baby was born who would witness it all.

Christine Carter Jackson, lovingly known as "Cricket," was born Aug. 7, 1924, to the late Atticus Haygood and Lula Gore Carter in Mullins, South Carolina.

After graduating from school, she went on to marry Bill Jones and started a family, complete with two children, Jerry and Linda. Jackson would later marry Andrew Lee and moved to Sumter, where they operated Lee's Open Air Market on Manning Avenue. While in Sumter, she gave birth to their daughter, Kathy.

After the death of Lee, Jackson married Wilbur Jackson and lived a life on the lake in Manning. The couple would operate Clarendon Playhouse.

As a grandmother of five and a great-grandmother of seven, Jackson has seen the turn of the times while enjoying the company of her family.

"Her dad, Atticus, lived to be 98 years old! The Carters have good genes and live long lives," the family said.

Jackson celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends at Family and Friends at Faith Healthcare in Florence on Sunday, Aug. 25.
