Group gives away school supplies, lunch during Birnie HOPE event

The Bishopville/Manning/Shaw AFB Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. sponsored a Book Bash on Saturday at the Birnie HOPE Center at 105 S. Purdy St. The event was held in partnership with the Sumter South Carolina combat Veterans Group and Central Carolina. Approximately 250 clear bags loaded with school supplies were given out. The students were also treated to free hotdogs, sodas, chips and cookies. Kona Ice was on hand to hand out treats, and the Sumter Fire Department gave a demonstration of rescue equipment.
