COLUMBIA - The University of South Carolina baseball team scored four runs in the sixth inning and two more in the eighth to pick up a 6-2 victory over No. 1 Arkansas on Friday at Founders Park in the first game of a day/night doubleheader.
The Gamecocks evened the series at 1-1 after losing 6-1 in Thursday's opener.
Carolina trailed 2-0 heading into the sixth as Cullen Smith homered in the second and Brady Slavens drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth for the Razorbacks.
In USC's half of the sixth, Braylen Wimmer walked with one out. He went to third on a Wes Clarke single before David Mendham to load the bases. Andrew Eyster followed with an RBI single before a bases-loaded walk to Josiah Sightler tied the game at 2-2.
Colin Burgess' sacrifice fly gave the Gamecocks a 3-2 lead. George Callil gave South Carolina an insurance with a single to score Eyster.
Burgess and Michael Robinson had RBI singles in the eighth to open the lead to 6-2.
Andrew Peters earned the win for Carolina, striking out three while not allowing a run in three innings after coming on in relief of starter Brannon Jordan in the fifth. Brett Kerry picked up his fourth save, striking out three in 1 1/3 innings.
Jordan had four strikeouts and gave up three hits and an earned run in 4 2/3 innings.
Brady Allen had two hits for the Gamecocks.
