DALZELL — Frederick Clinton Poerschmann, age 89, beloved husband of 61 years to the late Italy June Poerschmann, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born in Kirkwood, Illinois, he was the son of the late William Julius Poerschmann and Elizabeth Poerschmann. Fred served a 20-year career in the U.S. Air Force, where he and his family moved all over the United States. He was also deployed to Southeast Asia during the mid-1970s. Fred retired in 1977 as a captain. After his career in the military, Fred worked for both the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Columbia Housing Authority for many years as a housing inspector.

Fred and his wife, Italy, attended the Protestant services on Shaw Air Force Base for many years. He was very active as a range officer with the Manchester Shooting Range. Fred was very much a Renaissance man who was involved in many activities including traveling, model airplanes, leatherworking as well as woodworking. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and play golf. His true passion in life was spending time with his family. He was a devoted and loving husband to Italy for over 61 years. Fred will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Surviving to cherish his memory are two sons, Steven Poerschmann and his wife, Sheryl, of Canton, Georgia, and Robert Poerschmann and his wife, Treva, of Sumter; five grandchildren, Jami Matula and her husband, Brian, Christopher Poerschmann and his wife, Angela, Samantha Briseno and her husband, Michael, Brian Poershmann and Matthew Poershmann; and four great-grandchildren, Caitleigh, Easten, Raelynn and Isabella.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Gullick and Barbara Poerschmann.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, at noon in Bullock Funeral Home Chapel. The inurnment will follow the service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, from 11 a.m. to noon at Bullock Funeral Home.
