Former Sumter High star Croskey earns first weekly award at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, SC – Francis Marion University freshman point guard Kiara Croskey has been named the Conference Carolinas women’s basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 4-10, 2024.
Croskey, the starting point guard for last year's state championship Sumter High squad, averaged 9.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals per game in the opening two contests of the season. She connected on 63.6 percent of her field goal attempts and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line, while averaging 33.5 minutes per game.
In her collegiate debut against Coker University, she played all 40 minutes and tallied 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals, while helping a Patriot defense that held the Cobras to 38.6 percent shooting. The next night against Wingate University, she registered five points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals as the Patriots held the Bulldogs to 38.7 percent shooting.
Francis Marion (1-1) will host 24th-ranked Columbus State University (2-0) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with FMU students being admitted free with identification.
Croskey is a biology major and is a product of Sumter High School.
