Dogs of all breeds, owners and friends came out to support the Epps Ortho K9-5K, a professionally timed race, held Saturday, June 1. In 2017, Dr. Thomas W. Epps was looking for a way to increase what he was able to donate to the SPCA, and the annual K9-5K was founded. One-hundred percent of sign-up fees, donations and sponsorships go directly to the Sumter SPCA. "We are a little over $10,000 but still have money coming in. It's our best year yet!" said Dolores Morales, event director and co-founder. There were 115 participants in the race with Hunter Jarvis as overall male winner and Joy Miller as overall female winner.
