COLUMBUS, Miss. - Eloise Mellerson Nelson, 89, widow of Daniel Nelson, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, at Columbus-Aurora Australis Lodge, Columbus.

Born Dec. 24, 1920, in Davis Station, she was a daughter of the late William Brailsford and Callie Mellerson. She attended Clarendon County public schools. In her youth, she accepted Christ and joined St. James AME Church and later joined Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She was also a member of the YMCA.

Survivors include three daughters, Gladys N. Epps of Alcolu, Mary Alice Nelson of Sumter and Gloria N. Polite of Columbus; a sister, Pinese M. Caldwell of Alcolu; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 1260 Green Hill Church Road, Alcolu, with the Rev. James S. Hudley, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the churchyard cemetery.

The family received friends at the home of her daughter, Gladys Epps, 1117 Chase Circle, Alcolu.
