PINEWOOD -- Mr. Edward "Son" Spann, 88, widower of Mary Louise Billie, departed this life on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at his home in Pinewood.

Born in Clarendon County on May 14, 1922, he was the son of the late George and Melvenia Smalls-Spann. He attended Clarendon County public schools. He was employed by Georgia-Pacific and Mason Knight corporations in Thomasville, N.C., for more than 20 years.

Survivors include a son, Edward (Jessie) Spann Jr., of Pinewood; two brothers, Johnny Spann and Harold W. (Annie Mae) Spann, both of Pinewood; one sister, Thelma Spann-Holland of Pinewood; two additional sisters-in-law, Alice Billie-Soloman and Novella Spann-Purvis, both of Pinewood; four grandchildren, Karonda (Kevin) Edwards of Burlington, N.J., Rana (Robert) Jenkins of Sumter, Marcus (Keshia) Spann of Kissimmee, Fla., and Maurice Spann of Pinewood; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 2 at Community Funeral Home chapel. Burial followed in the New Hope Community Cemetery.
