As summer approaches and employers are seeking applicants, a local career workforce development program is providing residents with information about summer job opportunities. Eckerd Connects is hosting an information session and registration May 19 at the K&H Resource Center Inc. in Summerton.

Pamela Hall, the workforce career coach for Clarendon and Lee counties with Eckerd Connects, said Wednesday's event is meant to teach high schoolers the necessary skills and etiquette before applying for a job.

"We want to get people trained," Hall said.

The session will provide youths and adults in Summerton and surrounding areas with free training opportunities in health care, veterinary tech assistant, welding, manufacturing and offer employment assistance including resume writing, dressing for success, job searches, the application process, financial literacy and other skills that potential employees need to have before entering the workforce.

Kathleen Lawson Gibson, the founder and director of K&H, said this session will be a great opportunity for anyone, especially for youths in the area, to receive help when seeking a job or career.

"I just want to bring awareness and resources to Summerton, and I'm excited about it ... we want to support the community," Gibson said.

Those attending the event will also receive paid training, mileage reimbursement and other services needed. Refreshments will also be served. The event will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at 45 S. Church St. For more information, contact Pamela Hall at (803) 410-3737 or phall@eckerd.org.
