East Clarendon High's John Hardy among scholarship winners

McLeod Sports Medicine presented the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarships to three local athletes at the second-annual McLeod Sports Medicine Softball Tournament held Saturday, April 15, at the Freedom Florence Athletic Complex in Florence.
The athletes receiving the scholarships were John Michael Hardy, McKenzie Lawrimore and Abby Grace Parnell.
Hardy is a senior at East Clarendon High School, where he plays football and baseball. After graduation, he plans to attend Francis Marion University and major in engineering.
Lawrimore is a senior at Johnsonville High School, where she plays softball and tennis. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina to major in business administration and minor in real estate.
Parnell is a senior at The King's Academy, where she participates in competitive cheerleading and softball. After graduation, she plans to attend Clemson University and major in biochemistry.
Sponsored by McLeod Sports Medicine, the Geoffrey Kier Memorial Athletic Excellence Scholarship recognizes student athletes who exhibit excellence in academics, athletics and possess strong leadership skills. The scholarship is awarded annually to college-bound high school seniors. The athletes are selected from participating area public and private high schools.
