MANNING – A 28-year-old woman has been charged with felony DUI with death after a collision early Friday on Greeleyville Highway, east of Manning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Drema Durham was the driver of a Jeep Liberty SUV that crossed over the center line of U.S. 521 (Greeleyville Highway) and struck a Peterbilt tractor-trailer head on. The collision, which occurred near the intersection of U.S. 521 and Mallett Road, resulted in the death of the Jeep's passenger. Clarendon County Coroner Bucky Mock said the identity of the victim will not be released until family members are notified.
Durham and the driver of the tractor-trailer were transferred to McLeod Health Hospital for their injuries.
After being released from the hospital Friday morning, Durham was transported to Clarendon County Detention Center.
According to Lance Cpl. Matt Southern of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred at 2:05 a.m. Southern said it is unknown whether the occupants of the Jeep were wearing seatbelts; however, the driver of the Peterbilt was wearing a seatbelt.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision, Southern added.
