While the Christmas season rolls in, food banks are beginning to open their doors to host food giveaways.

Zion First Born Church of the Living God and The Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston will come together on Friday, Dec. 2, to host a drive-through Fall Food Giveaway in Manning.

The mission of both groups is to do their part in feeding the hungry, the less fortunate and those that just might need a little help during the holiday season.

"This is the first year we are holding this, and the opportunity came and we took advantage of it," Pastor Sam Mose said.

Since 1983, The Lowcountry Food Bank in Charleston has served more than 200,000 food-insecure individuals every year through 300 community partners.

From 2 to 4 p.m. at Zion First Born Church of the Living God, 314 Lantern Lane, residents are invited to drive through to gather food they might need.

Mose said they want the community to know that the church will be there to serve them in any way it can.

Anyone in need of assistance is welcome to receive a food donation; food will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

"We want to allow our youth to eventually get involved in the community and to be able to make this an annual event," Mose said.
